    Senior Production Blog 9

This was the week of when the first release candidate was due. Which means that this week saw all hands on deck to scramble to get in what we could. This week, my task was that of the big middle man of each of the systems that were being implemented, fixing bugs that arose because of that, helping the other disciplines get their assets in, and then animation implementation (fun). And boy did all of that take all of my time. The animations themselves took a solid 14 hours of w

Well this had a long time coming. While spending time fixing bugs and adding art assets, I had completely neglected the adventurer system. You know, one of the pillars of our game. So I had to get it done. And in one caffeine fueled night I did. Well. Most of it. The core anyway. So I finished up a system that basically expands on the adventurer system that we had in the past. It allows the player to equip items to the adventurers to increase the chance that they have to comp

Work work work. Progress is being made on getting the different pieces done and implemented, so I am happy on that end. The customer and dialogue system is up and functional enough that we should be able to hook it up to the front end and hopefully start testing what we have. And on the boss side of things, we have the second worm archetype done, and work is now being shifted to work on the second boss, the troll. During our full team meeting this week, we decided to shift ou

So it’s been quite a long time since I updated, sorry about that. Things got busy quickly like I mentioned might happen. So from last time, we got back on track with our time schedule, but work was still moving slower than I would like. I would be asked a few times a few how my team is doing, and the phrase “slowly but surely” is an apt one. We are getting the work done, and I am super proud of that from my programming team, but sometimes I just wish it was a bit faster. I ca

Things are slightly better now. After last week’s issue we reevaluated where we stand given he time we have left and what we still need to get done, and we are still relatively speaking on track. Relatively is the key word here. While progress is being made on the boss fighting and the customer interaction based system (slowly but surely), I feel like we are falling a bit behind on the adventurer system and even a bit on the player character on the boss fights. This is simpl

This week all and all, could’ve be better. This is the end of a sprint, which means there are certain deliverables that I expected to have done and in the build to get feedback on and improve upon. The issue I had this week is that both of my programmers failed to have the deliverables done by the end of the sprint. There were snags in both the customer trait system, as well as the worm behavior system. Now I can’t really blame them, considering this is their first time worki

Another relatively slow week when it comes to visible things done with the build, but we are all hard at work making sure that the groundwork is laid out for content to be added in when we can. The programming team has added a bunch of data driven stuff to their systems, so that when they are complete, the designers will just be able to add and modify values in a text file in order to balance out systems in the game. This was done for both the customer system and the worm bos

This week was a bit slow all things considered, but we started getting more of a sense of what needs to be done on this project in order to call it complete. The programming team has been splitting their time between fixing some bugs that have shown up in the game (that needed to be fixed from last semester) and for the newer members, learning the in and outs of unreal and the project they are working on. Slow going, but we expect to speed it up as the project continues forwa

After capstone production, the teams that go forward into Senior production, with larger teams and the goal to make a complete game by the end of the semester. So altogether, it seems like it is going to be a way more stressful. Yay. This first week, it was all about getting the team together on the same page. Since my team went forward from capstone production(and I was the only programmer) I am the programmer lead for the team. What this entails is on top of the programming
